Just a good reminder

I read this blog today and thought that it was some really great advice. So in case you don't immediately jump over there to read it, the gist of it is basically that is more import to love who you are, than to love what you look like. And that you can't truly love what you look like before you love who you are.

I have some really good friends who I love and I admire the socks off of them! And of course these ladies are super lovely - they have cute hair, awesome clothes, cool make up, flat stomachs, long legs, yada, yada, yada but, of course, that is not why I super duper love them. Let me count the ways:
  • Strong and unmovable faith, standards, morals, testimony
  • addictive, happy, positive out look on life
  • good listeners
  • understanding of my short comings
  • comfortable with who they are
  • big, bubbly personality
  • talented, creative, educated
Whenever I talk to these friends I always find myself wishing that I could be a little more like them because they are just flat out good peeps.

I also have found myself thinking quite a bit about body image lately and trying to change the way I view myself. Sometimes I get smaller. Sometimes I am bigger. But here is the stupid thing, I feel the same way about myself whether I am 10lbs away from my goal weight or 30lbs away.

So, here's what I am thinking today: It is important that I try to take care of my body and to make healthy choices. When I make unhealthy choices I need to own them, learn from them and move on. Beyond that, the important things are taking the time to teach, love and enjoy my daughter, trying to be the best wife I can be, finding ways to bring joy to my life and to my families lives, always living up to the morals and standards I was taught, trying to go out of my way to help others, learning to bite my tongue a little more often and to reign in the sarcasm. And in the words of one of my most favorite people ever, ever, "Try be be a little bit better each day."

So I guess here is the moral of my story, If I worried a little less about why my butt isn't fitting into my jeans anymore, I would have a lot more time to help give other people a reason to smile. And in the mean time my butt might get smaller and it might stay the same, it might even get (heaven forbid!) a whole lot bigger. But I will also have a much bigger "inside me." And that is a bigger me I can really smile about.
