Playing Catch Up - Sadie is 3 months

Hi Everybody! This is Sadie. I just wanted to send a quick update so you can all see how big I am getting. I turned 3 months on November 5th. Below are some pictures of me doing my favorite activities.

Baths are so much fun. I like to splash around in the water. I really hate to get out.

I also like tummy time.

I am getting to be very good at standing. But when I have to lie down, playing with my feet is so much fun!


I know I am getting big, but I still like to do little newborn things like take a nap with dad or get wrapped up like a burrito.

Whew! Writing this email has made me tired! I better get down for a nap. But, I am looking forward to seeing all of you Seattleites soon and all of you here in Utah even sooner.

P.S. In case you didn’t hear, I was a football for Halloween. Daddy really wanted me to dress up like a football, but mommy didn’t want me to. She said it was a boy costume, but, she went ahead and helped grandma make the costume anyway. In the end, even mommy had to admit I made a pretty cute football.

Playing Catch Up - Sadie is 6 Weeks

(I wrote this in my own journal and as an email to family when Sadie was actually 6 weeks).

Our little bright-eyes is getting bigger and bigger each day. She is learning to smile and trying really hard to roll over. She started smiling really big just a few days before we had her blessing pictures taken and we were really lucky to get such great smiles from her.

Sadie is sleeping pretty well, about 6-7 hrs. a night. The only problem is that sometimes she doesn't like to go to sleep until 2 or 3 in the morning. One particular night She would just not go to sleep. I went into her room and in my very best "I am the mom and I am tired" voice I said "Sadie, Go To Sleep!" She just looked up at me and gave me the biggest smile ever. How can you be mad at that?

Sadie is eating great. Although, after she eats she seems to be in pain with stomach aches or acid reflux. I have been really trying to watch what I eat so my diet doesn't upset her. I don't eat chocolate, dairy, high fat foods, carbonation or wheat. It seems to help her a little. I also found this stuff that is a miracle! It is called gripe water. It calms her stomach right down and helps her to go to sleep. (Thanks to Grandma Brewster for that little gem of wisdom).

Ryan has enjoyed being at home. His work gave him 2 weeks paternity leave so he has been taking half-days here and there to help out as I have been recovering and we have all been making this big adjustment. Ryan and Sadie love to take naps together and watch football.

O Malley has done surprisingly well with our new addition and I think they will grow to be best buds. We are loving getting to know our beautiful daughter and are looking forward to her blessing next week. Thank you for all your support and encouragement!

Playing Catch Up - Sadie's Birth

After a bit of drama, our darling Sadie Anne arrived Tuesday August 5th at 8:05 pm.

We had a normal weekly doctor appointment Tuesday at 10:30. After a bit of a wait, our doctor took a look and found that I was dilated to a 4. He was surprised that I had not had consistent contractions. He then estimated that the baby was around 8 pounds. He suggested induction might be a good idea. We asked when, and he said, "How about today?" We soon found ourselves rushing home to grab our hospital gear, making cell phone calls informing work and family along the way.

We were just on time to the hospital at 1:00 pm. As the nurse was hooking me up to the monitors, she noticed I was having a moderate contraction. "Are you feeling that contraction?" "What?!" I thought I just had a bad back ache through the morning. Turns out I was having back contractions and was already in active labor! No point in inducing something already in progress, the doctor instead broke my water.

The contractions intensified and about an hour later, I received an epidural. Labor continued at a consistent pace and at 7:00 pm, I was dilated to a 9. But the baby was not dropping far enough and there were some indications that me and/or the baby may have an infection. At 7:30 pm, I went into an emergency C-section. It went quite smoothly and on 8/5 at 8:05, our Sadie was born 8 pounds 8 ounces and 21.5 inches long.

Sadie had lots of dark hair and big dark eyes. Her toes and fingers are way long like her dad's and she has my cheeks and nose. She has Ryan's mouth and ears.

We are so excited that she has joined our family!

...And we lived happily ever after.

Let's see how well all of you people know me. I am going to give you a few scenarios in which I meet Ryan. Leave me a comment telling me which one you think is true.

A. My roommate, Tasha, and I were just chillin' in our dorm when a voice came through our open window, "Hey Tasha, want to try my orgasmatron?!!" Shock and horror, what had my innocent ears heard? What kind of a place was this BYU Hawaii anyway? In walks Crystal Johnson. In the course of the following conversation I learned that Crystal was a good friend of Tasha's, a neighboring mainlander from down the hall and soon to be a good friend of mine. I also learned that she was wearing her favorite bra, which happened to be bright orange and that her orgasmatron was only the best head massager EVER. So anyway, Crystal and I hung out a lot. We had many a day-o-fun visiting local beaches and other various attractions. We took bus rides to the local mall. We joined the music club. We did yoga. We drew pictures depicting ways in which our life was currently spiraling out of control. And various other excellent activities. Well, as it turned out, Crystal's brother was also attending BYU Hawaii. I was very excited when she introduced us and he ended up asking me out. (I didn't know any better at the time, but it was standard procedure. Ryan dated all of Crystal's friends). Luckily, he liked me best and we ended up getting married and we lived happily ever after.

B. It was a Friday night. I had only been in Hawaii for a few weeks and I didn't know too many people yet. My roommate Tasha had to work that night so I had resigned myself to a night alone in my dorm room. While sitting there feeling sorry for myself I decided it was time for a little Carpe Diem! So I wandered off to the campus movie. Arriving late, I sat in the back by myself. When the movie ended I saw a friend, Dave, nearby so I went to talk to him. He led me to a group of his friends. The only other person I knew was Crystal (see the above scenario). Well Dave started flirting with this blond girl (we will call her flirty chic cause I can't remember her name), who I would later learn was Ryan's date. Well, Ryan isn't prone to jealousy, but come on, his date was being stolen from right under his nose. So, in an attempt to get even, Ryan started to flirt with me, assuming that I was Dave's date (an innocent enough mistake seeing as how we had walked up together). Lucky for him I was A. super cool B.not on a date with Dave (I was not in the habit of ditching my dates) and C. totally OK with stealing flirty girl's date (a.k.a. Ryan) because he was hot. So we ditched Dave and flirty chic and headed off together to play ??badminton?? Yes, we played badminton. And that was it. Love at first sight. And we lived happily ever after.

C. At the PCC at one of the island presentations they invite honeymooners up onto the stage where they teach them a traditional dance. The man dons a grass skirt and carries a spear and proceeds to kill a pig for his beautiful maiden as a declaration of his undying love. Ryan and I just happened to attend the PCC on the same day at the same time unbeknowsted to each other. The audience at this presentation was severely lacking in honeymooners and so they randomly called Ryan and I out of the audience to act as the honeymooners. Ryan did the pig dance and totally won me over. In the end the man is suppose to publicly announce how much he loves his sweetheart. In an incredibly awkward moment Ryan declared, "Well, I don't know her so I am not sure I love her, but she seems pretty cool." Good enough for me. We spent the rest of the day touring the PCC together, dated, married and lived happily ever after.

Epiphanic Moment

I am Lisa Johnson and this blog is all about my life. As my daily activities center heavily on my daughter Sadie, this blog will mostly be about her and her growing up moments. But if we are all being honest, you really are only reading this blog to see pictures of her anyway and any stories about me, Ryan or Malley will just be interesting anecdotes. With that being said, who is this Lisa Johnson person anyway?

Every person has that one moment in their life that acts as a crossroads, one moment that changes all other moments yet to be. My epiphanic moment came my freshman year at BYU as I trudged, depressedly, back to my dorm after a day full of finals. It was snowing and of course I lived at the top of the hill. I was cold. I was tired. My shoes had absolutely zero traction. (Picture someone trying to ice skate uphill with a bag full of bricks on their back and you will get a pretty good picture). On about my twentieth time falling, a few words, which I am sure are against the honor code, slipped past my lips along with a promise to myself that next winter would NOT be spent in Provo. BAM. Epiphanic Moment.

The next winter I jetted off to BYU Hawaii and my life has never been the same. What happened? Had the time of my life. Met my husband. Fell in love. Returned to Provo???? (I am still not really sure why) Got married. Graduated with a degree in English Lit. Lived blissfully as D.I.N.K.s for 3 years. Got a dog. Decided he was alot of work. Had a kid. Decided the dog was easy to take care of. Started this blog.

See, if it wasn't for that one moment way back when, "I" wouldn't be me and I wouldn't be writing this blog. But it did and I am, so enjoy!
