Why Do I Have Kids?
Why, to make them my own personal slaves, of course! (I often suspected this of my own mother growing up and she adamantly assured me that was not the case. Ha! Now I know the truth.)

Ayudame! Ayudame!
I am not a morning person. Not at all. Sometimes I go to bed too late. Other times I just don't sleep well. And sometimes my bed is just so warm and comfortable I just don't want to get out. So, for whatever reason it may be, I am not a morning person.
Luckily I have a husband who takes compassion on me. He wakes up, gets ready for work, makes his own breakfast and lunch, and then he goes and gets Sadie up (who has usually been awake in her crib for 30 minutes by this point) changes her diaper, gets her breakfast and gets her all set up with pillows and blankets to watch tv until mom is ready to wake up. I am pretty spoiled. It is a pretty nice set up.
Sometimes, however, Sadie is just not that interested in watching tv. Sometimes she gets her toys, other times her books. Usually she starts doing something she shouldn't like going through the drawers in the bathroom and finding my makeup. Today she decided she would rather play Dora the Explorer than watch it, so suddenly she found herself up on the edge of my bed, slipping precariously close to the edge. (One of her favorite games to play is "Save Me Mom!" This can be played standing at the top of the stairs, on the edge of the couch, at the end of the hall...anywhere really). As she allowed herself to get closer and closer to the edge her screams became louder and louder: "Mom! HELP ME! HELP ME!
But I was not so much in the mood to play that game. I was still sleeping. So, what is a little girl to do when she needs her mom to save her but her mom just won't listen? Perhaps, she could try another language.
As her legs slipped over the edge of the bed, Sadie gripped the sheets tighter and started yelling as loud as she could, "MOM! AYUDAME! AYUDAME! AYUDAME!"
Yeah, that's right. My two year old is bilingual. She is awesome.

"Sadie, Whatcha Doin' ?"
Sometimes little girls don't go to sleep until 11pm.
And sometimes mommies don't sleep well, what with growing babies squeezing their bladders all night, and whatsuch.
And sometimes little girls who went to bed at 11pm wake up at 5:45am.
And so, sometimes mommies just need a nap. Unfortunately, sometimes mommies accidentally fall asleep while little girls are awake.
And sometimes little girls remember where mommy keeps the makeup...And sometimes little girls think that makeup not only goes on the face but on shirts, hands, floors, walls, chairs, doors and cupboards.
And so, it seems the mommy will be spending her day with these.
Boy, the mommy sure is glad that she is renting the house that she lives in with this toddler.
And renting all the furniture that the toddler is drawing on.
Perhaps the mommy should go look at the contracts she signed and figure out how ruined the house and furniture can be before she is responsible for buying them...
However, the mommy can't stay mad for too long because the little girl keeps walking around the house saying, "Awww, SaaaaDiiieeee! That is a No! No! That is naughty! We only color on paper, not walls!"
What was that I was saying in my last post? Something about relaxing and ready for the toddler again? What? I'm not so sure...

Gettin' The Crazy Out
With Bambino dos on the way, Ryan's 30th birthday last month and our Anniversary next month, Ryan and I decided we deserved a kid-free vacation. A little time to sleep in, relax and enjoy some tantrum/potty training/ food cutting- free time together. We didn't want to spend a lot of money, but we definitely wanted to go somewhere warm. Another requirement was that we wanted to see something we had never seen before. Our final destination? Phoenix, AZ (warm and cheap...er) with a little road trip to the Grand Canyon (something great we had never seen before. It is, after all, one of the new seven wonders of the world according to wikipdeia and USA Today).
Some how I convinced the grand-parental people to fly in and play with the Sadester for a week while we journeyed westward. (THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!) I was not worried in the least bit. On Monday morning, our day of departure, I told Sadie we were leaving and she said, "Ok, mom. Bye! See you soon."
Sweet! And we were off!
We spent 3 days in Scottsdale dining, pool-side lounging, and movie going. I think we may have been the youngest people inhabiting that town by at least 30 years. I guess it is true that you get wiser with age because it seems like a pretty good life to me.
Somewhere around day 2 1/2 I declared to Ryan, "I don't feel crazy any more!" which I guess he either understood or agreed with because all I got in response was a smile. One does get that way after a certain number of times viewing Dora the Explorer, you know. Luckily the remedy is a little more sleep than usual, a lot more sunshine than usual and remembering some past times that I almost forgot I enjoyed: reading, biking, spending time with the hottest guy ever...
A break for some pics:
So, after 3 great days of sunshine we road tripped it to the Grand Canyon.
Miles driven: about 250 (about a 4 hour drive)
Average rating of all the restaurants in town: 1. Trip Advisor suggests McDonald's as the best place to eat.
Color of our hotel: Pink. Never trust a pink hotel...
Weather conditions upon awakening the next morning: blizzard
Grand Canyon entrance fee: $25
Forest Ranger response when asked about the viewing conditions: "Very little..."
Our spectacular views of the Grand Canyon:
It was FREEZING!!!! Oh, and completely fogged in. None was the exact amount we saw of the Grand Canyon. We had a good laugh, went and saw the IMAX film to figure out what we had missed and then we high tailed it back to the land of old people and sunshine.
Loved the vacation. Loved the sleep. Loved the company. I even loved the Grand Canyon.
Loved coming home. Sadie smiled ear to ear for about 15 minutes straight when we got home. I am glad to know she missed us just a little bit.
So, I feel like I got all my crazy out... just in time for it to start all over again. Bring on the toddler, bring on the baby, bring on the Dora. I (think) I can handle it now.
