22 Months...That means almost 2!

Wow, where has the time gone? My little baby isn't a baby anymore! I just went in and peeked at her sleeping. She is so tall she almost takes up the whole crib. Every time I see this it surprises me. For some reason I expect to see this little pea who almost got lost among all the blankets.

So, here is a recap of everything she has been up to lately. I will do it in the ABCs to try to keep it interesting :)

A: Animated. If Sadie is excited about something, she is really excited about it. If she is sad she is very, very sad. When she sees an airplane in the sky she shouts and points and jumps. When she cries she has the cutest little pout.

B: Brave. Sadie ventures into almost any situation without hesitation. She loves to play and explore and try new things. B also has to stand for her babysitter Briana. Sadie LOVES to play with Briana...and I love to get to go on weekly dates with the hubby. Ok, lots of B's today. B also has to stand for binkie. She is still very attached! One more: Bow. It is often the first thing she asks for when she wakes up in the morning.

C: Curious. Her new favorite sentence is "Where did (insert person or object, such as daddy or kitty) go? She is also very observant of the world around her. We went on a hike on memorial day, but we didn't get to far as Sadie had to stop and say hello to every ant she saw. "Hi! Hello, Ant!" And, her favorite thing to do during story time or when we go for walks is to point and ask, "What's this?" C also has to stand for Cereal and/or Cheese. Those are the two foods that are keeping her alive at this point.

D: Daddy's girl. All day long she asks for her dad. She will run to the garage to see if his car is there or run to the window to see if she can see him coming home. Of course, she has to play hard to get when he actually does come home but there is no hiding how much she loves him. They have so much fun wrestling together, watching movies together and playing games on dad's iphone together.

E: Eager. Sadie is eager for life! She loves to learn. She love to play. She even loves to go to bed. No joking, she often tells us when she is read to get into bed. E also stands for eat. Sadie still has yet to reach the 20 pound mark, yet, she is a great eater. She currently loves cheese and cereal and she would do anything for chocolate but she will eat fruit and vegetables as well.

F: Fun. The other day Sadie and her Papa (grandpa) were playing ring around the rosie and Sadie was just laughing and giggling her little heart out. Then when she was almost too dizzy to keep going, she yelled out, "FUN!" giggled even louder and just kept right on playing. Another time, I was pulling funny faces at her to get her to laugh and she was just laughing her head off. When she could finally get enough air to talk she said, "Mommy, funny!" It doesn't really matter what we are doing, doing it with Sadie is almost always fun. And Sadie really likes to have a lot of fun.

G: Girly-Girl. From being picky as to what she wears, to always wanting a bow in her hair, to wanting to put moms makeup on, to loving babies and being very loving and affectionate toward them to loving chocolate, Sadie is a girly-girl! And I love it!

H: Hugs. Sadie gives the best hugs ever! She hugs you with her cheek pressed right up to your cheek and she puts her arms so tightly around you that her shoulder presses into your throat cutting off all oxygen flow. Then her little legs wrap and your chest just as tightly as she can squeeze. Yes. Best Hugs EVER. H also stands for hair. She finally has some! And she is such a trooper to endure the torture sessions while I try new hair-dos on her.

I: imagination. Sadie has started to be able to play pretend. She has a little play kitchen and we often pretend to eat the amazing dishes she prepares. It seems like she has a pretty vivid imagination when it comes to her dolls and bath toys. She has very extensive, long conversations with her toys. I am not sure what she is saying, but it looks like fun.

J: Jump. Sadie has recently learned how to jump up and down with both feet leaving the ground. She loves it! She also likes to jump on the tramp, on her bed, on the couch, on the dog, on her dad...

K: Kitty. Sadie loves all cats. Especially the one that lives across the street and comes over to say hi whenever Sadie is out playing. Sadie even know how to call her, "Here, kiddie, kiddie, kiddie." She can spend all afternoon just following that cat around the yard and when she turns and walks away, the cat follows her. They are pretty good buddies. K is also for kiss. I love to get kisses from Sadie. She puckers her lips and says mmmmmmmmm until you kiss her and then she says MA! If I am very lucky she sticks her tongue out.

L: Lovable. I can still get Sadie to cuddle with me every one and a while, especially after her bath or during story time. I can never get enough of my little cuddle monkey.

M: Marker. Sadie likes to color with markers...on her face. And legs. And arms. Then she says, "See? Pretty!" M is also for Malley (our dog). He and Sadie are still pretty good buds. She calls him Balley. M would also have to be for mischievous. She likes to test the boundaries sometimes. For example, if I tell her not to go down the stairs she gets this little mischievous smile on her face and takes one step towards the stairs. Then she looks back to see how I am going to react, smiles and takes another step. The process is repeated over and over until she either gets down the stairs or I tell her "no, no" again.

N: N is for her favorite word: No! No! N also has to stand for one of her favorite people: Nana (her grandma). Nana went on vacation last week and Sadie missed her lots. When Sadie finally got to see her this Sunday she was so excited that when she tried to run to her, her feet didn't move fast enough and she fell down. But that didn't deter her enthusiasm. She jumped right back up and ran to her yelling, "Nana, Nana, Nana!"

O: Obedient. Sadie is pretty good at following rules and directions. She already knows how to be super soft to dogs, cats and babies. She knows that she is not to go in the street and she stays on the sidewalk. Most of the time she is pretty good natured about doing what we ask her to. Sometimes she has to go to time out (like when she plays in the dogs food bowl or tells her mommy to "go away!"), but more often than not, no tears are shed. She just patiently waits until her time is done and we come back to get her. She is also super good at saying sorry (saw-we) and it is very cute!

P: Potty. As in potty training is near! She recognizes when she is going and she runs to the potty. She just doesn't like to sit down, yet. P also stands for Papa. Her grandpa and most favorite person to play with. P also stands for Pixar junkie! Sadie is a little bit of a couch potato and she loves to watch movies! Her favorite movies are Finding Nemo, Up and Toy Story.

Q: Queen. She definitely rules the roost around our house.

R: Runner. She runs everywhere she goes! Sometimes she gets so excited about where she is going that her feet just can't keep up. That is why her face is often covered in scabs these days. Last week she tripped and fell when she was running outside on the side walk and she skidded on her nose. The top of her poor little nose had road rash for a week. Sad!

S: Stickers. the more, the better! Sadie loves her stickers. You can often find her wearing 15 to 20 stickers on her shirt, usually layered on top of one another within a 2 inch space on her shirt. Although, I have found them in her diaper, in her hair, on her nose, in my hair, on the dog, in her crib, in the washing machine, outside in the grass, in the car...

T: Teeth. She almost has them all. She is been working on cutting her last four (the canine teeth) for quite a while. Ouch! I for one am very glad this painful part of her life is coming to an end.

U: Unbelievable. She constantly surprises me with the things she says or does. She is always surprising me by saying words I didn't know she knew or explaining things I didn't know she understood. One of my favorite parts of parenting is sharing the little looks and smiles with Ryan which always mean, "what is she doing now?" or "she is so funny."

V: VERY favorites. Sadie has a couple of things that are her VERY favorites. Her binkies are probably #1. She can't live without them. Her favorite animal right now is a whale which features very prominently in most of the books we get her from the library. Her favorite thing to say is, "BOO!" which she started saying after she watched Monsters, Inc. Her very favorite tv shows are Word World and Yo Gabba Gabba.

W: Whiny. She has reached the terrible twos! In her defense, it must be frustrating knowing what is you want, but not knowing how to communicate it or not understanding the reason why it is not or can not be provided right at the precise moment she wants something. W would also have to stand for words. She learns so many new ones on a daily basis. She is even starting to speak in broken sentences. Some of my favorite words she says are: Fun and Funny or Silly, Pretty, Bubble, Bus, Whale, Please, TV, YEAH!!!, and Ohhhh Nnooooo!

X: XXX. As in, Don't try it. Don't even think of trying it. Don't take her out of the bath before she is ready to get out. Don't make her walk when she wants to be carried. Don't take away her toys if she is not done playing with them. Don't make her come inside before she is done playing outside. Don't try to help her if she wants to do it by herself. Don't change her diaper if she doesn't want it changed. Each and every one will send her off into a full blow temper tantrum complete with tears, yelling and throwing herself prostrate on the ground.

Y: Yuck! Sadie hates to get/be dirty. And she hates for things around her to be dirty. I have taken her to the park before and she won't play until she has picked up all the garbage on the playground. When she gets her hands dirty she shakes them and cries until we wipe them off. And when she sees something dirty she points at it, scrunches up her nose and says, "Yuck!"

Z: ZZZZs. As in, she is letting us get some sleep again. She recently went through a phase where she would wake up screaming in the middle of the night and wouldn't go back to sleep. Her doctor said it was probably night terrors and he gave us a few ideas of how to deal with them. They worked like a charm and we are all happy and well rested again!

While the whole idea of procreating still petrifies me, you have an incredible ability to articulate the highs and lows of it. You demonstrate how frustrating and hard parenting can be but in the same turn explain all of the things that make it so rewarding. I've listened to people talk about why they love being a parent, but no one has been able to give me such detail and description. The usual answers of "It's so wonderful" and "The best thing in my life" leave me with more questions than answers. Thank you for painting a true and straight forward portrait of what it means to be a parent. If my parents ever get grandkids out of me, they may have you to thank for it. :) Thanks for sharing, I love reading this stuff!!!

You are such a good mom! And very good at writing all about it! Something to aspire to next time around - as I wish I would have done more with Hal!
